El Espejo is a magazine produced by the students of Texas A&M University-San Antonio. The magazine is committed to the idea of giving readers an honest reflection of San Antonio, hence the name which is Spanish for The Mirror. Our mission is to supply the tools that give every student an opportunity to gain valuable experience as well as help provide a platform to share stories about their community.

Kevin Castro

Co-Editor-in-Chief

Kevin Castro is a senior Communication major at Texas A&M University-San Antonio. He currently works for El Espejo magazine on campus as the editor-in-chief. In his free time, he enjoys basketball, podcasting, photography and traveling. Kevin plans to pursue a career in journalism when he graduates.

Kayla De La Peña

Kayla De La Peña is a senior communications major at Texas A&M-San Antonio. She is currently working as co-editor-in-chief  for El Espejo magazine. She has worked as editorial intern at San Antonio Magazine. In her free time, she enjoys reading, watching movies, traveling and hiking.

Peter Maciel

Lead Designer

Peter Maciel is a senior communications major focusing on mass media production and business marketing aspects of communications. He works for El Espejo Magazine in the role of lead designer. San Antonio is home for Peter and he expects to create and lead a successful creative firm in his near future. Peter is also Vice President and Captain for the A&M- San Antonio soccer club and enjoys leading and mentoring the organization’s community.

Oziel Trevino Munoz

Oziel Trevino Munoz is a senior  communications major at Texas A&M University-San Antonio. He recently graduated with an associate degree in communication from Palo Alto College. He currently works for El Espejo Magazine as one of the photo editors.  He always knew he wanted to do something in media. He is also a photographer who has a passion for storytelling. He hopes to one day graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in photojournalism. His long-term goals are to work in video production by incorporating photojournalism. He is also minoring in English which he hopes to write a book one day sharing his many stories of being a dreamer.

Victoria Martinez

Victoria Martinez is a senior communications major with a sociology minor at Texas A&M University-San Antonio. She will be graduating in December 2019 with a bachelor's degree. She graduated from Palo Alto College in 2017 with an Associates of Arts in Journalism. She is a first generation college student in her family and hopes to motivate her younger siblings to pursue a college education. She is currently working as a photo editor for El Espejo Magazine. Along with working for her campus magazine, she runs her own photography business (@fotosby_tori). In her free time she enjoys watching reality television as well as hanging out with family and friends. After graduation, her plan is to work as a social media coordinator and continue her photography business.

Stephanie Marquez

Stephanie Marquez is a senior communications major at Texas A&M-San Antonio. She earned her associates of arts in photography from San Antonio College and was a staff photographer for The Ranger, SAC’s student newspaper. She is currently working as a photo editor for El Espejo Magazine. In her free time, she enjoys music, gardening and traveling.

Alexis Velentzas

Alexis Velentzas is a senior communications major and a minor in psychology at Texas A&M University-San Antonio. She graduated from Floresville High School in 2015, a year earlier than she was supposed to. In high school Velentzas was an athletic trainer; there she realized how much she loved health and fitness. Now, she interns as a social media editor for El Espejo Magazine. Velentzas enjoys writing about health and fitness, and encouraging people to be as active as possible.

Tessa Peña

Tessa Peña is a senior communications major and sociology minor at Texas A&M University-San Antonio with plans to graduate in May 2019. She graduated with her associates degree in Liberal Arts from Northwest Vista College in 2017. This is her third year as a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success. She balances her full-time studies with her two part-time jobs at Kendra Scott and working as social media coordinator for El Espejo Magazine. In her free time she loves to travel, spend time with family and friends and drive up to Austin where she hopes to move in the near future.

Romina Fears

Romina Fears is a senior communications major at Texas A&M University-San Antonio. She works part-time at Six:02 at North Star Mall as a sales stylist. Romina is also a part 0f El Espejo Magazine’s design team. She is originally from Heidelberg, Germany, and lived there for 16 years until July 2017 when she transferred to A&M-San Antonio. Her mother is Italian and her father is African American. She speaks German and Italian. She enjoys discussing European art and contemplating where she wishes to travel next.

Joyce Raposo

Joyce Raposo is a senior communications major at Texas A&M University-San Antonio and editor-in-chief for the Mesquite student media. In 1992, she received her Associates degree in Liberal Arts from St. Philip’s College but took a hiatus from school to build a career in the medical industry but looks forward to finally completing her bachelor’s degree in May 2019. In her spare time, Joyce enjoys Austin’s live music scene and keeping up with the latest alternative music and artists.  She also loves to travel, dining out at trendy new restaurants and cooking for friends and family. After graduation, Joyce plans to use her love of music, public relations background and her journalism education to launch a new career in the music industry, which is her one true passion.
